Introduction
Ever been curious exactly where a department is located? Wonder what the town or community looks like where a particular fire department serves? We have too. To help provide greater understanding of the fire departments here, we now have a way for you to view the departments on theFireWiki on Google Earth and Google Maps. We are now beginning to add geomapping to the various articles so that you can view them on both. This project is still in the very early stages, so it may take awhile to get everyone mapped.
How to Get Involved
If you would like to assist, or to get your department listed, here is what you need to do:
- First, make sure your department is listed. If not, add it.
- Second, at the top of your fire department page, add the following code:
{{#kml.placemark: Point (Latitude,Longitude)
|id=id
|name=name
|visibility=visibility
|open=open
|snippet=snippet
|style=style
|Your Fire Department's Name Goes Here
}}
Then add the following just after the text:
NOTE: PLEASE LIST THE LONGITUDE AND LATITUDE IN DECIMAL FORMAT That's it! Next time someone downloads the file, your department will be listed and they will be able to read all about you.
